Fresh Grace Every Day Matthew 6:34 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. “I am concerned about the big business deal that I have to close tomorrow.” “I am worried about tomorrow’s job interview.” “My medical test results will be out tomorrow. I am afraid it won’t be good.” God does not want you to worry about tomorrow. He wants you to know that He gives you all the help you need for today, and when tomorrow comes, so will fresh help from Him. This is God’s principle even in the Old Testament. When the children of Israel were in the desert, God gave them fresh manna from heaven every morning. (Exodus 16:13?16, 31) They did not have to worry about tomorrow because when tomorrow came, there was fresh manna again. He was their provision every day. Today, God’s manna is the grace He gives you every day. If you are worried about a situation tomorrow, know that there will be sufficient grace for that situation when it comes. God wants you to simply rest in His ability to heal, deliver, protect and provide for you every day. In the Old Testament, when the armies of Moab and Ammon came against King Jehoshaphat, God told the anxious king, “Do not be afraid nor dismayed? for the battle is not yours, but God’s? You will not need to fight in this battle? stand still and see the salvation of the Lord?” (2 Chronicles 20:15?17) When the next morning came, King Jehoshaphat saw how God caused such confusion to come upon his enemies’ camp that it brought about their own slaughter. Amid all that fighting in the enemy camp, God’s people merely stood still and saw Him fight the battle for them just as He had promised. My friend, when you see a problem looming in your tomorrow, don’t be afraid or dismayed. Look to the Lord, and see His grace and salvation deliver you. God wants you to live a stress-free life, not one filled with worries about tomorrow’s problems. When tomorrow comes, His grace will be there for you as your help, protection, favor and enabling! God Is Easy To Take From

Exodus 3:8 8So I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and large land?

When the children of Israel provided for themselves in Egypt, they ate cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic. (Numbers 11:5) These were types of food which required them to bend down close to the ground and pull out to eat ? a backbreaking work. But when God provided for them in Canaan, a land flowing with milk and honey (Numbers 13:27), He gave them grapes, pomegranates and figs. (Numbers 13:23) These fruits were not found on the ground and the Israelites only had to pluck them to eat them. God wants you to know that when He provides for you, you will see a flow of provisions coming your way, and all you need to do is to just stretch forth your hand and take from Him! So if you are planning to get married, don’t say to yourself, “Well, if I work harder and start saving now, I will have? oh my goodness, not much! The cost of the wedding banquet will wipe out everything! How can I get married?” As a child of God, know that your Daddy God is excited about your upcoming wedding, and He is very rich! I have not seen a single couple in our church lacking on their wedding day. What I have seen is money coming in on the wedding day itself. And before the last drop of champagne is drunk, everything is paid up. So instead of trusting your efforts to have enough for your big day, God wants you to fix your wedding date and put your trust in Him to provide for you richly. Are you faced with a financial debt? How much do you think you can save by working overtime and taking on a second job? Some of our church members will testify that God simply turned their financial situations around. In fact, Pastor Mark, our Hokkien and Mandarin services pastor, had a sizeable debt before he became a Christian. After he got saved, he handed his debt problem over to God. Within two years, his debt was supernaturally cleared and he even had a surplus! My friend, faith is the hand that takes from God. And He is easy to take from!

1)      Despite a resolution passed by the UN conference on NPT review, GOI has said that it will not sign the NPT as it feels it is discriminatory. NPT accepts all powers that exploded a nuclear bomb prior to 1964 as nuclear weapon states free to stockpile nuclear arms. USA,UK Russia, France and China are the 5 countries who exploded a nuclear bomb prior to 1964.india did so in 1974.

2)      Art of living founder Sri Ravishankar escaped unhurt after an unidentified gunman shot at his convoy near his ashram in Bangalore.

3)      HDFC customers can now withdraw Rs. One lac a day through ATM and shop for Rs.1.25 lacs with their debit cards. Others will follow suit soon.

4)      Israel created an international outrage after its naval commandos stormed a civilian flotilla carrying humanitarian aid and hundreds of pro Palestine supporters to the blockaded Gaza strip.

5)      World No Tobacco day was observed on 31^st May.

6)      Central Statistical Organization has declared that India recorded a GDP growth 7.4 % for the fiscal 2009-10, a marginal improvement from earlier estimate of 7.2 %. Agriculture continues to cause concern having grown only by 2 %.

7)      GOI will set up a National Social security Fund with an allocation of Rs.1000 crores as part of its efforts to extend social security cover for workers in the unorganized sector. It will cover weavers, toddy tappers, rickshaw pullers and bidi workers

      Exports registered an increase 36.2 % to US $16.88 billion in April 10. Imports also registered an increase of 43.3 % to US $ 27.3 billion. Federation of Indian Export Organization has set the export target for 2010-11 at US $200 billion.

9)      With BJP withdrawing support to Shibu Soren and with his failure to muster support for an alternate coalition, President’s rule has been imposed in Jharkhand.

10)  Auto sales zoomed in May with Maruti selling for the first time over I lac cars in a month at 1,02,175 units which included exports of 12134 units.

11)  Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Haroyama resigned over his self confessed failure to stay in tune with his people over the issue of shifting of US bases in Japan and public perceptions about the role of money in domestic politics. His popularity ratings fell to 20 % from an all time high of 70 %. He was in office for less than a year. Kaoto Kan is the new PM.He was the Finance Minister.

12)  Mamta Bannerjee led Trinamool Congress continued its winning streak in West Bengal by wining the elections to Kolkota Municipal Corporation by a thumping majority as well as emerging as the most successful party in the elections to the civic bodies in 80 other Municipalities across the State.

13)  Justice KG Balakrishnan, the former Chief Justice of India was appointed as Chairman of National Human Rights Commission.

14)  Animal Planet’s world’s ugliest dog of 2009 Miss Elite at age 17 after a career in show business.

15)   GOI has made it compulsory for listed Companies to have at least 25 % public share holding. Companies will have to dilute 5 % each year till the threshold level is reached.

16)   5^th June was observed as World Environment Day.

17)  Indian American Anamika Veeramani, won the 2010 US Scripps National Spelling Bee crown .

18)  Lewis Hamilton of Britain won the Turkish Grand Prix-his first title this year. He was the 2008 world champion.

19)  Sahara will continue to sponsor the Indian cricket team till the end of 2013 as they bid the highest at Rs.3.34 crores per International match ahead of Bharti Airtel’s bid of 2.89 crores per match. The estimated amount that Sahara will pay BCCI over the sponsorship period is Rs.558 crores.

20)  Roger Solderling of Sweden caused a major upset in the men’s singles quarter finals of the French Open Championship when he defeated the first seed and defending champion Roger Federer.Roger Federer is a sixteen time grand slam winner. It might be recalled that Solderling had upset Ralph Nadel in the French Open Championship last year to eventually lose to Roger Federer in the Finals.

Francesca Schiavone became the first Italian woman to win a grand slam final when she defeated Australian Samantha Stosur in straight sets in the finals of the French Open

21)   India was knocked out in the Round Robin stage in the tri nation one-day cricket tournament being held in Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka are the other participants. India had sent a second string team to test their bench strength.

1)      Bringing to a close one of the most acrimonious battles in Indian corporate history, the Ambani brothers have decided to bury the hatchet. and create an environment of cooperation and collaboration.Mukesh led RIL has agreed not to enter gas based power generation business till 2022.The non-compete pact entered into by the 2 brothers in 2005 to resolve the family split that occurred  after the death of Dhiru Bhai Ambani will be cancelled be cancelled. Both brothers will open negotiations for the supply of gas to Anil Ambani’s RNRL. Reliance stocks surged upwards in the bourses.

2)      Kamala Persad Bissessar became the first woman Prime Minster of Trinidad and Tobago. She is of Indian origin whose forefather came to Trinidad as indentured labourer in the 19^th century.

3)      May 22^nd was observed as International day for biodiversity.

4)      Reema Narendran, a senior reporter with The New Indian Express, TVM won this year’s “Green Award” in the English media category for her coverage of biodiversity issues. The award is instituted by Kerala State Biodiversity Board.

5)      CIAL,Kochi has won the Performance Excellence award for the year 2008?09. The award is instituted by the Indian Institute of Industrial Engineers, a professional body headquartered in Mumbai. The award is in recognition of its overall excellent performance in planning/execution, operational competency, financial viability, development activities, technology up gradation and customer satisfaction.

6)      “Kites “has become the first Bollywood film to open in the top ten in US/Canada. The adventure film is from Anil Ambani’s Reliance.Big Pictures. The film raked in close US $ 1 million during the week end of 22^nd/23^rd . However , Shah Rukh Khan starrer ” My name is Khan” had grossed US $ 1.94 million when it opened in Feb this year during a weekend that included Valentines Day but was ranked only 13.

7)      A 2 day flash strike by the engineering and ground staff of Air-India was called off on 26^th after court intervention. The strike threw operations out of gear and left thousands of travelers stranded at various airports in the country. The flash strike was called because of delay in payment of salaries and a gag order issued to employees prohibiting them from going to the media with their problems.

      Mahindra and Mahindra has acquired a 55 % stake in Bangalore based Reva , the biggest maker of electric cars in India. The new company will be christened Mahindra REVA Electric Vehicle Company Ltd.

9)      US space shuttle, Atlantis, will now be permanently grounded after it touched down at Kennedy space centre in Florida on 26^th May. This brings to an end an important period in the US space programme. Atlantis flew 32 space missions, covering 120 million miles in 25 year career.

10)   The 3G auction has resulted in a liquidity crunch in the banking industry. The winners of the auction are scrambling to raise Rs.67, 000 crore (the total bid amount for all the circles) which has to be deposited with GOI in 30 days and their main source is the banking sector. To compound matters further, advance income tax for corporates is due in June. To ease the situation, RBI has allowed the banks to request for a waiver of upto .5 % from maintaining prescribed SLR levels. The RBI has also decided to conduct Liquidity Adjustment Facility ( LAF ) twice a day till 2^nd July instead of once a day. Banks can also seek additional support under this scheme to the extent of .5 % of their net demand and time liabilities. LAF was introduced in 2003 by RBI with the objective of assisting banks to overcome day to day mismatches in liquidty.This is done through REPO and reverse REPO auctions

11)   Apple has signaled the end of an era and the beginning of another. Apple has overtaken Microsoft to become the most valuable technology company in the world. Wall Street valued Apple at US $ 222.12 billion on 26^th against Microsoft’s US $ 219.18 billion. This also heralds a significant shift in consumer tastes. Consumer tastes (like Ipods, Iphones, Ipads which is the major revenue earner for Apple) have replaced business needs (Like computers and associated software pioneered by Microsoft) as the leading force driving technology. It has been a stunning turnaround for Apple which a decade ago was on the brink of closure.

12)   In a suspected act of sabotage by Maoists, 76 passengers were killed and close to 200 hundred injured when certain bogies of Howrah-Kurla Super Deluxe Express train derailed at Jhargram in West Bengal following a bomb explosion and removal of fish plates of the railway track. Maoists have stepped up their activities of late and have ignored Government calls to come to the negotiating table.

13)   Core sector industry growth dropped to 5.1 % in April 10 from 7.2 % in March.. However, growth in April last year was only 3.7 % for April. Core sector comprises crude, petroleum refinery products,, coal,electricity,cement and finished steel.

14)  British Petroleum is struggling, for over a week now, to tame one of the worst oil exploration disasters. An accident in their .off shore drilling platform in the Gulf of Mexico has led to oil gushing from the sea bed endangering marine life and polluting the coastline. About 80 million litres of oil is feared to have gushed out of the sea bed after the disaster a month ago.

15)  In an unprecedented departure from past practices of not singling out countries by name, United Nations has asked India, Pakistan and Israel to sign Nuclear Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) without further delay. The call came at the end of a month long NPT review conference in New York. They also decided to meet again in 2012 to make Middle East a nuclear free zone. The conference was attended by delegates from 189 countries.

16)  Sixteen year old Arjun Bajpayee became the youngest Indian to climb the Everest. He achieved this feat a week ago.

17)  Kerala State education Department has issued a circular banning the use of mobiles in schools. The ban applies to teachers, parents and all visitors to school. Mobiles that are seized will be auctioned off. All schools have to put up a pay telephone booth next to the Principal’s office for use by students in an emergency.

18)  Former TV child star David Coleman of the serial “Different Strokes “fame died at the age of 42 in Utah, USA. He was one of the highest paid TV artists in his hey days and commanded a price of US $ 100000 per episode  and was famous for his character’s catch phrase “Whats choo talking ’bout Willis?”

19)  India Inc has started galloping in fiscal ended 2010 after the slow trot at the beginning of the fiscal.An analysis of the standard alone results of about 800 companies listed in NSE ( published by Business India of 30^th May ) throws up some interesting results. While top line growth was lower in 2009-10 compared to 2008-09, bottom line growth was substantially higher in 2009-10. Have a look at the table below ( All figures are in percentages )

@ Q refers to Quarter, PBDIT is Profit before Depreciation Interest and Tax and PAT is Profit after Tax.

@ Some Comments:

·                    Strong Q 3 and 4 results indicate an economy emerging out of recession (Although technically India was never under recession but was  only showing some signs of an economy in recession like production cuts, lay offs, salary cuts, declining demand etc ) India never had 2 consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth which technically classifies a country as being in recession .

·                    Improved performances achieved across sectors.

·                    A tight leash on costs seems to have worked. Raw material cost escalation halved to around 12 %, administrative /selling expense increased only by 2 %.( employee dissatisfaction at withdrawal of perks notwithstanding) and power/fuel costs declined by .5 %. In other words, total expenditure (other than depreciation and interest) grew only at 9 % as against 24 % in 2008-09.

·                    Interest cost was lower at 3.6 % compared to 32 % in 2008-09. (Lack of liquidity in the banking system??? RBI has been reducing CRR/SLR to enhance liquidity ) while depreciation was higher in 2010 (Was it because of change in accounting norms or was it because of reinvesting of profits to buy more assets ??? India Inc has been reporting substantially higher production in Q 3 and 4 )
